i run Tradeipedia, so under UK data protection law i'm the data controller for it. questions, or requests about your data, go to hello@tradeipedia.com
the short version: i keep what i need to run your account and the game, and nothing more. no ads, no tracking, and i never sell your data or share it for marketing
what i store
- your email address and a Google account ID, which Google passes on when you sign in, so i know it's you next time. i never see your Google password, and i don't send newsletters or marketing. Google also passes on your name and profile picture: i don't show or use them
- your username, which you choose, and which is public
- your game activity: coins, trades, holdings, orders, options, Tradle results and times, and daily quests
- technical logs: my hosting and database providers keep short-lived server logs, IP addresses included, for security and to fix faults
what other players can see
your username, net worth, the stocks you founded or hold a majority of, your Tradle record, and your holdings as they were a week ago. the order book shows prices and amounts, never names. your email address, your coins right now, and your live orders are private to you
trades are a public record. every trade's time, price, and size shows straight away, with no names. who bought from whom becomes public once a trade is a week old, on the stock's page and on both players' profiles, and stays public for good as the market's history
why i use it
- to run the game you signed up for (the lawful basis is my contract with you, the terms)
- to keep the game fair and secure (legitimate interests): i look at trading patterns between accounts to catch spare accounts and coins being funnelled from one account to another, and i may freeze accounts that do it. when you report a username, i keep the report, and who sent it, until i've dealt with it
who else handles it
- Supabase, which runs the database and sign-in, on servers in London
- my website host, which serves the pages and keeps the server logs above
- Google, which signs you in
- Wikipedia: search suggestions and article previews are fetched by your browser straight from Wikimedia, which sees your IP address under the Wikimedia privacy policy. i don't send Wikimedia anything about your account
these providers only handle data on my instructions, and i'll update this list when it changes
cookies
only the ones needed to keep you signed in. your light or dark theme is remembered in your own browser. there are no analytics or advertising cookies
how long i keep it
for as long as you have an account. you can delete it any time from your profile page, by typing your username to confirm: your email, username, and profile are removed, your shares are sold on the market, and your orders are cancelled. your past trades stay in the public record, since they make up the charts and history everyone sees, but your username comes off them and they show a placeholder instead, like "📉 Fallen Trader Lantern Otter". trades themselves are kept for good. backups of everything else roll off within a few weeks
keeping it safe
every connection is encrypted, i hold no passwords (Google handles sign-in), and the database itself enforces who can read what, so other players can't get at your private data even by asking the database directly
your rights
you can ask for a copy of your data, ask me to correct or delete it, or object to how i use it, by writing to hello@tradeipedia.com. i'll reply within a month. if you're unhappy with the answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office
age
Tradeipedia is for people aged 18 and over, as the terms say
Aemilia Dixon,
administrator of Tradeipedia
